EID PRAYERS
When the Prophet (peace be upon him) arrived in Madinah, he found that the people marked two specific days for celebration and entertainment. He, then, remarked, "Allah, the Exalted, has replaced these days with two days better than them: the Day of Breaking the Fast of Ramadan (Eid al-Fitr) and the Day of Sacrifice (Eid al-Adha)." (Ahmad and An-Nasa
Etiquettes and rulings of the two Eids
1- It is forbidden to fast on the day of Eid as reported by Abi Sa'id who said, "The prophet forbade observing fast on two days: the Day of Fitr and the Day of Nah "[Agreed upon]
2- It is recommended to perform ghus! (ritual bath), adorn oneself and wear new clothes. 3- It is recommended to eat before leaving to attend the Eid al-Fitr prayer, but as for
"Eid al-Adha, it is recommended that a person delays eating until after the sacrifice. 4- For those who go out to perform the Eid prayer, it is recommended to take one route for arrival and one route for departure.
5- It is recommended to show happiness and excitement and spend graciously on one's family and other beneficiaries on Eid days.
6- It is very important that a person attends Eid prayers and does not miss them.
7- It is a good thing that people meet and congratulate one another on Eid days.
8- There are no voluntary prayers before an Eid prayer or after it in the open space reserved for prayer (muşalla).
9- It is recommended to perform Eid prayer in musalla and not a masjid as did the Prophet himself, unless there is a dire need.
10- Eid prayer consists of two rak'ahs (units of prayer).
The first rak'ah begins with seven takbirs (saying Allahu akbar), aside from takbirat al- 'ihram.
The second rak'ah begins with five takbirs aside from takbirat al-qiyam, which is said after rising up from a previous rak'ah. After the Imam ends the prayer by saying the two salams, he gives two short khutbas (sermons) separated by a pause at which he sits down, as in Friday prayer.
One of Sufiyan ath-Thawri's companions said, "I went out one Eid with Sufiyan and he said, 'The first thing we will do on our day is to lower our gaze."
Zakat Al-Fitr
It is the charity given to the poor at the end of Ramadan, particularly on the night of "Eid al-Fitr or in its morning before the commencement of Eid prayer.
1- Its Ruling: It is obligatory for every Muslim, whether male or female, minor or adult, free or slave. It is incumbent on a Muslim to pay the charity for himself and for those he is responsible for, such as his wife and children. It is preferable that they give it themselves. If not, then he must pay it himself on their behalf.
2- The wisdom behind it: Ibn 'Abbas said, "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) ordained zakāt al-fitr is to purify the fasting person from indecent words or actions, and to provide food for the needy." [Abu Dawud]
3- Its Types: zakat al-fitr must be given in the form of foods such as barley, raisins, rice, wheat and dates. It is preferable to give zakah from best food types, that will benefit the needy most or what is most common in a certain country. 4- Its amount: One sa of food. A sa' is a certain measure which equals four mudds
(a mudd equals a handful of an average man). It is approximately.
5. Its time: It becomes obligatory when the sun sets on the night of Eid (the night before Eid). It is better, however, to distribute it on the morning of Eid before the prayer. It is also permissible to give it one or two days before Eid.
6- Its place: It should be given to the people of the country in which a person resides, so long as there are poor and needy individuals therein
